Our friends at Seattle-Nantes Sister City Association have news to share about an upcoming project...
"Every five years, the beautiful city of Nantes hosts Floralies Internationales, the largest flower and garden show in France and the second largest in Europe. Held over 12 days, the show attracts nearly 500,000 visitors from all over the world. Connecting Seattle to Nantes for almost 40 years, the Seattle-Nantes Sister City Association has been selected to represent Seattle and the US in this May 2019 event.
"Our project is ambitious, covering nearly 2000 square feet. Inspired by the Duwamish people and other Coast Salish tribes who first settled the region now called Seattle and Puget Sound, the exhibit will present a garden reminiscent of a Native American dwelling site on the edge of the temperate rainforest.
"Our First Peoples are still here, forming a vibrant part of the diversity of the Seattle community.
SNSCA is partnering with the Duwamish tribe and with local Coast Salish artists to create a modern interpretation of a traditional longhouse, surrounded by native plants with a backdrop of Mt. Rainier sparkling in the distance.
"Please help us celebrate Seattle’s long-standing relationship with Nantes at this spectacular event. Help the Duwamish and Coast Salish peoples show the beauty of their ancient culture. To learn more about our display and to donate, see https://seattlenantes1980.wixsite.com/seattle-floralies. We need to purchase plants in France by March 1. Every contribution helps and we have fun thank-you gifts!"
