In rural Tanzania, education is often the key that unlocks a brighter future. Yet for many girls attending Kisarika Secondary School in Uru North Ward near Moshi, simply getting to school each day is a challenge—and a risk.
Seattle-Limbe Sister Cities Association (SLSCA), in partnership with Moshi Rotary and local education leaders, is raising $85,000 to build a safe girls' dormitory that will transform educational opportunities for young women in the region.

Build Her Future: Kisarika Girls' Dormitory Project
The Challenge
Kisarika Secondary School currently provides boarding facilities for boys, but girls do not have access to safe student housing. Many female students must walk up to 10 kilometers (6 miles) each day or find alternative accommodations far from their families.
These circumstances expose girls to serious risks, including:
-
Gender-based violence and harassment
-
Early pregnancy
-
Chronic fatigue from long commutes
-
Poor attendance and academic performance
-
Increased likelihood of dropping out of school
No student should have to choose between her safety and her education.
Our Solution
Together, we will construct a modern girls' dormitory at Kisarika Secondary School that will provide safe, secure housing for 80–160 female students.
The dormitory will include:
-
Safe and secure sleeping accommodations
-
Beds, mattresses, and personal lockers
-
Toilets and bathing facilities
-
Electrical systems and security lighting
-
Online computer access
-
A supportive environment for studying and personal growth
This project will remove barriers that prevent girls from completing their secondary education and create opportunities for future generations of young women.
